• New York Power Grid High temperature superconductive (HTS) cable – cooled by a cryogenic nitrogen core to improve the capacity and reliability of power grids. A pilot project demonstrates the technical and commercial advantages of HTS in a live electric utility environment.

• US Department of Energy Oxy-combustion – a promising carbon capture technology in existing coal-fired power plants. $6.1 million for a three year demonstration project.

• Sustainable energy – our projects include biogas, distributed generation and wind energy.

• Alternative fuels such as hydrogen fuel cells – our activity includes design of the storage system for hydrogen fuel cell powered cars.

We supply the Energy industry with:

• Insulation – SF6 for electrical insulation of transmission and distribution equipment.

• Oil and Gas production and recovery – bulk gas and solutions for the refining, enhanced oil recovery and services segments.

• Water treatment – bulk oxygen and sulphur dioxide for effluent treatment, including total systems for utility water treatment from EMC (www.emcinc.com).

• Emission control and testing – scientific mixtures for calibrating monitoring equipment.

• Welding – welding gases, consumables and equipment for maintenance in power and nuclear plants.

 

• Fire suppression chemicals and fire protection products for production premises.

• Instrument calibration – scientific mixtures and high purity gases for calibrating laboratory instruments.

• Transport fuel – LPG fuel for vehicles.

• Health and safety equipment, personal protective equipment and resuscitation packs.

• Customer safety audits – to identify unsafe work practices and recommend appropriate control measures.

• Safety training – staff training in safe handling of gases on the shopfloor and in the laboratory.
