VOC Treatment & Recovery

Regulations for controlling hazardous air pollutants have become increasingly stringent, but BOC can help you find ways to lower emissions and improve your earning power at the same time. Featuring cryo-condensation technology, our Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) Recovery System is a highly efficient, flexible alternative to destructive and adsorptive technologies. Whether your terminal’s current VOC treatment system is slowing production because of emissions limits or has increasingly high operating costs, BOC has a portfolio of options to help you save money and ensure compliance. And because we understand that what works for one chemical manufacturing company may not suit another, we’ll work with you to tailor our VOC treatment and recovery system to meet your needs.

Using liquid nitrogen as the refrigerant, the cryo-condensation process cools the emissions in a process stream to very low temperatures in proprietary and patented heat exchangers, characterised for their high fractionating capacity of vapours and gases. The emissions are separated by decreased vapour pressure, condensing the VOCs and returning valuable products back into your operation. The refrigeration is supplied through indirect heat exchange with liquid nitrogen. The warmed nitrogen is then utilised for purging and blanketing operations.

Controlling volatile compounds from process gases

The chemical and specialty chemical industry uses solvents to manufacture, distribute, and store products. Our CIRRUS® Vapour Emission Control systems help to minimise volatile organic compounds from process gases through cryogenic condensation technology.
Important benefits include:

  • Minimising the release of VOCs into the atmosphere
  • Recovering valuable VOCs to save costs
  • Efficient use of nitrogen, as both liquid and gas:

        - Cryogenic cooling with liquid nitrogen for VOC emission control

        - Inerting with the gaseous nitrogen that exits the cryogenic cooling process

The vapour emission control system is easy to start up and shut down. It is operated by a programmable logic controller (PLC) that ensures the selected emission level is kept constant, regardless of variation in gas flow, pressure, temperature, or level of solvents in the process gas.
